The rules on equipment are a lot different than the Arnold Festival, here they are: http://usksfnorth.org//content/view/15/29/

The long and the short of it is that they use the cobra, fingers exposed gloves - does that make pointstriking, grabbing, chin na feasible? Also certain shoes are banned, kung fu pants, face cage, tournament t-shirts, all that good stuff.

True, it is in fact a different sport than San Da or San Shou.
The rules are completley different and the different equipment reflects that. It is a much more brutal combat than the San Shou. The fingerless gloves are for grip, Chin Na is still not an option. It is a more Classical type of tournament and as such elbows an knees are allowed. also there is no ring but rather a platform that you fight on and can be thrown from.

It is an interesting event and should be a lot of fun for those who like being beaten.

A little scary, but exciting at the same time. Definitely will have to step it up in preparations. I think the website I linked to is for the Kuoshu "North Region" tourny, I don't know if that's the same or different from the Great Lakes, but I assume the rules and equipment demands will be the same or similar.

I called over to the Shaolin Institute...yeah, it sounds kinda like the arnold tournament, but he mentioned chest protectors also, so anyone wanting to do it might want to think about getting one, but probably wait until its confirmed.

weve been to the GLKFC a number of times and they never allowed chest protectors before. That must be a new thing for them. I doubt they will be mandatory and may be just for division one people. Gino should be sending me all the details soon.
